Panvel, May 26: The Elections for Panvel Municipal Corporations in Panvel were held on May 24 along with Bhiwandi and Malegaon. The results for all three – including the newly formed Panvel Municipal Corporation Election will be declared in few minutes as the counting will start at around 10 am under the supervision of State Election Commission (SEC).
This is the first time Panvel City Municipal Corporation (PCMC) is going for a maiden election, almost nine months after it was formed. Major parties like BJP, Congress Shiv Sena and NCP all have contested their heavyweights in the elections.
The BJP has held high hopes in Panvel and the party is contesting from 75 seats with its alliance partner RPI (A) in two seats and People Republican Party (PRP) in on. Also, Congress is contesting from 18 seats and its alliance PWP is contesting from 48 seats. The NCP is contesting from 12 seats. The Shiv Sena is contesting from 68 seats, while its ally Swabhiman Shetkari Sangathana is contesting on five seats.
According to a report, a total of 418 candidates will fight for 78 seats in 20 multiple-member wards in the PCMC.
The Indian Express reported that 161 have declared assets worth Rs 1 crore and 76 per cent of the candidates from the BJP (59 candidates) and BSKP (41 candidates) each are in this category.
