Malegaon 26th May, 2017: Election for 84 seats in Malegaon Municipal Election was held on 24th May, 2017. Malegaon is a city in Nashik district. It is located on Mumbai-Agra national highway on the confluence of Girna and Mausam rivers. It is well connected to nearby cities like Mumbai, Dhule,Nasik and Manmad. The mayor of Malegaon is Haji Mohammad Ibrahim,Teesra Mahaz. Cloth weaving is very popular in Malegaon, being one of the major source of revenue for workers. Due to introduction of power loom, the cloth industry in Malegaon flourished. Malegaon attracts majority of workers from UP, Khandesh and Deccan. The major reason being low cost of living. However, in recent times the power loom industry is going through a difficult phase due to fluctuating government prices. On the other hand Malegaon is becoming major regional centre as PVC pipes manufacturer. Also villages near Malegaon are major producers of onions. Therefore, Malegaon has some opportunities for it to be considered as one of the revenue generating city by bringing about more development and upliftment to industries currently operating there.
During previous Malegaon Municipal election in 2012, Indian National Congress and Nationalist Congress Party secured maximum seats, the former secure 25 seats and the latter secured 22 seats. On the other hand Shiv Sena and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena fared badly during last election as both together bagged only 13 seats in which MNS performed very badly by getting only 2 seats.
This time too Malegaon had witnessed fatal four way battle between Indian National Congress, Nationalist Congress Party, Shiv Sena and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena. AIMM(All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen) will also compete for seats in Malegaon Municipal election.
