Johannesburg, Feb 18: Chasing a target of 204, South Africa began on shaky grounds, losing top two wickets in quick succession. Despite a somber partnership between Reeza Hendricks and Farhaan Behardien, the proteas manage to score 175 runs, falling short of the target by 28 runs. With this, the Virat Kohli-led side went 1-0 up in the 3 match T20 series.
The best bowling figures for India were recorded by Bhuvneshwar Kumar who gave away just 24 runs by taking five major wickets. He was well supported by Jasprit Bumrah from pace department.
Earlier, India had lost the toss and was asked to bat first. Putting up a splendid performance with the bat, the Indian side posted a mammoth 203/5 in the 20 overs batting first. Shikhar Dhawan was India’s star of the innings, smashing 79 from 39 deliveries. The southpaw’s knock included 10 fours and 2 sixes.
Manish Pandey was the second highest run getter, posting a rather slow-knock of 29 (27). Captain Kohli scored 26 runs off 20 balls and Suresh Raina who made a return after a year failed to impress as he manage to make only 15 out of 7 deliveries.
From South Africa point of view there was some contribution by Tabraiz Shamsi(1/37) who dismissed captain Kohli and there were some decent death bowling by Andile Phehlukwayo(1/16).
Bhuvneshwar Kumar got Man of the Match for his figures 5/24.
