New Delhi, September 9: The Election Commission on Thursday said that the VVPAT machines will be used in the upcoming assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh and also reviewed the poll preparations there.
A two member team of Election Commission which arrived in Shimla on Wednesday held a meeting with the chief of state electoral officer Pushpendra Rajput. In the meeting all senior officials from the state along with Deputy Commissioners, Superintendent of Police and nodal officers were present. The CEO sensitise them on the latest election processes and election management.
“The VVPAT (voter-verified paper audit trail) machines will be used in the upcoming Assembly election, which will witness the optimum use of latest information technologies for effective coordination,” Umesh Sinha, deputy election commissioner said.
He also stressed on the role of media and social media which plays an important role in conducting a transparent election. The deputy election commissioner asked the district election officers to regularly use it for the smooth dissemination of information to the public.
He also directed them to stay in touch with the political parties regularly for their active participation in all aspects of the election process.
Sandeep Saxena, deputy election commissioner said special campaigns will be launched in the state in the mid of September to include all eligible persons in the electoral roll. He also ordered the district election officers to regularly hold review meetings with the police regarding to ensure smooth conduct of the election.
The assembly election in Himachal Pradesh are due later this year and the Election Commission is expected to announce the dates by the end of this month or the beginning of October.
