Algiers, April 28: Chlef, one of the northern wilaya province of Algeria, would go into polls on May 4, 2017, when elections would for the national legislative assembly would be held across the 48 provinces of the nation. A total of 13 seats would be contested in Chlef, through the proportional representational manner. The primary electoral players in Chlef are: National Liberation Front (FLN), National Rally for Democracy (RND), Green Algeria Alliance (led by Hamas), Patriotic Republican Association and the Workers’ Party (PT).
In the 2012 Algerian legislative elections, FLN won 5 out of 13 seats in Chlef. The RND, Patriotic Republic Association, Green Algeria Alliance and PT won 2 each. The electoral battle for 2017 is expected to emerge as a similar contest, with ruling FLN holding the edge.

The lists of candidates of respective parties and coalitions have been released for Chef. The Green Algeria Alliance, being led by Hamas (Movement for Society and Peace) campaigned extensively in the province, with party chief Bouguerra Sultani leading a heated campaign to challenge the dominance of FLN in Chlef.
Meanwhile, the PT led by Louisa Hanoune is also pinning hope to appeal the electorate in Chlef, attacking the FLN-led government for allegedly failing to provide jobs to scores of youth in the province.
