Algiers, April 28: The legislative elections in Algeria are scheduled on May 4, 2017. Polling will be conducted across the 53,000 voting station registered by the independent election commission. A total of 462 seats would be contested across 48 provinces (wilayas), using the proportional representation method. In Adrar province (W-1), a total of 5 seats would be contested. The list of candidates have been announced by political parties in the fray from Adrar.
Out of five constituencies from Adrar contested in 2012 elections, the ruling National Liberation Front (FLN) succeeded in winning 2, whereas, the National Rally for Democracy (RND) won 1. Out of the remaining 2 seats, 1 was bagged by an independent, whereas, the remainder was allotted to Front El Moustakbal (FM).
In the forthcoming elections, Adrar remains a closely fought contest between the FLN and RND. The former has chosen to reiterate its list of candidates, as in 2012. The party’s campaign in Adrar is being led by incumbent deputy from the wilaya and one of the veteran leaders of FLN – El Hamel Ali.

FLN is entering the electoral fray from Adrar with moreover the same line-up of candidates. Under Hamel Ali’s leadership, the party expects to increase its tally in Adrar. The RND, whose campaign is being led by firebrand leader Ahmed Ouyahia, also aims to improve their electoral strength in the province.
